‘be-come’

Created for the Bloomsbury Festival exhibition curated by The Lettering Arts Trust, this piece takes its inspiration from the opening words of a poem on the cycle of parenting, “As I become …”. Inscribed on slate sourced from mid-Wales, the fragmented word emphasises the process of becoming, reflecting the delicate balance between love, weight, and lightness. The childlike, uneven script, and the faltering enunciation of the word, enhances the sense of innocence, mirroring the themes of growth and transition explored in the poem.
